SaldeanaLike many others we became fascinated with the Leonberger when one appeared on the tv show Norge Rundt early in the 80's. Right away, Leif meant this was absolutely the breed for us and in 1986 we picked up our first leonberger, Saldeana in Kinsarvik.

Denneis og SansiOur first litter came in 1989 and was between Saldeana and Ragnarikets Lillemann Lejonhufvud. From this litter we kept Sansi. Sansi was so much too us, a fantastic family dog, a wonderful hiking companion and a super show dog. Our breeding program has benefited greatly from her fantastic qualities which she has passed on to her children. Sansi grew up with Dennis, a male puppy we bought from Lykseth Kennel. Watching these two grow up together, we learned a lot about this fantastic breed.

Sansi We kept a male, St. Aldebaran, from Sansi and Terr -Leons Wanzo's litter. St. Aldebaran sired four litters in Norway during his lifetime. When we mated Mathoakas Relaxing Boy and Sansi we decided to keep a female, Gin, who is still living with us today.

DalsveienIn the summer of 1990 we found our "dream property" which laid at the edge of Gills lake, an old farmhouse with plenty of land. We used a year to remodel and can now say that with the privacy of trees and bushes and only a stones throw away from the lake and boat life we have created a home enjoyed by all. We have fenced in the entire property so the dogs have a very large "dog kennel".

The same year Tone travelled to earlier East Germany, Magdeburg, and brought home Panda v Hartz. Panda was 24 months old and had to stay in quarantine four months before she was able to come home to us here at Skjærgaarden. Mostly likely a dream place for Panda to come too after spending four months at the quarantine station! Panda was not use to walking in the woods and through fields, nor was she use to being inside like the other dogs were. It was, to say the least, a great change for her. She tripped over every branch in the woods and there was constantly something for her to discover both inside and outside.

Panda had three litters at Skjærgaarden. From Panda and Terr Leons Wanzo's litter we kept a female, Pepsi, who eventually had two litters herself. From Panda and Mathoakas Hope of New Year, we kept Skrulla, who continues to live with us along with her children Muffin , Indigo and Nam Nam.

Panda Panda was not the best show dog but we have learned later that this isn't always a necessity when breeding. Panda was a healthy and good dog with a fantastic temperament. We who knew her say that we can see her live on through her children and grandchildren. Panda was a special family dog. She always needed to know where we were at any given time. She adapted herself easily to everything and everyone she came across. Panda has meant so much for our breeding program and will always have a special place in our hearts.

Panda and Sansi are the foundation for our breeding program today and for what we are working on for the future.
